Vet Treks Spay, Neuter, & Animal Care Trip
Every year, ANAW and ANAW-USA partner with the Vet Treks Foundation, led by Dr Lisa McCarthy, to address urgent animal welfare issues in specific target areas in Kenya, with the long-range mission to support the expansion of veterinary services in areas of need in order to create improvements in animal welfare far into the future. These trips specialize in providing spay and neuter services and preventative care to dogs and cats in rural Kenya. Registration for the 2022 trip is now closed, but please get in touch if you’d like to pre-register for the 2023 trip, dates to be announced.

Trip Goals:
Advance the cause of animal welfare and the compassionate treatment of animals through hands on preventative care and treatment
Build veterinary capacity in underserved areas of Kenya through education and the provision of equipment and supplies to local veterinarians
Improve community public health through better animal care
Promote sustainable community economics
Foster an understanding of One Health and the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health and well being in local communities
Harnessing Travel for Good:
Travel is fascinating, adventurous, educational, and fun. It also represents an opportunity to give back and do some good in the world. “Voluntourism” (fusing travel with volunteer efforts) is a key focus of Vet Treks trips.
Our volunteers include veterinarians, veterinary students and technicians, and shelter workers. A portion of your costs are tax-deductible, and Continuing Education opportunities are available in some locations. Though veterinary participation is our core focus, our projects also need the extra hands of dedicated non-veterinary crewmembers, so everyone is welcome!
Following our community projects and the clinic portion of the trip, it is our hope that you will linger in Kenya to enjoy the amazing adventures it has to offer. We have established reputable tour partners who can arrange any level of trip extension you desire.
